A Mercedes built between 2005 and 2016 is often still in great shape – but its Comand or Audio 20 system shows its age: map updates are expensive or hard to come by, there's no music streaming and the voice control understands very little. With a CarPlay retrofit for your Mercedes (or Android Auto), you get up-to-date navigation with live traffic, Spotify, podcasts and voice-controlled messages on the screen in your car.
For most models there are two options. An interface adds CarPlay to the original screen and, depending on the model, is operated with the Comand controller, so the cockpit stays unchanged (from CHF 790). Alternatively, a new, larger Android display replaces the existing screen or radio (from CHF 690). On the first-generation A-Class and B-Class, the Sprinter and the Vito, a new display is the usual route.

Factory radios and systems in Mercedes-Benz cars
Mercedes-Benz distinguishes between the standard Audio radio (such as Audio 20) and the higher-end Comand system with built-in navigation. Technically, the generations are referred to as NTG. The right solution depends on which one your car has:
Older Audio and Comand systems (up to approx. 2012)
For example in the A-Class W169, B-Class W245 and M-Class W164. In most cases a new Android display with a matching fascia replaces the radio; with Comand, an interface is also possible on some models.
NTG 3.5 to 4.7 (approx. 2007–2015)
C-Class W204, E-Class W212, GLK, ML W166, A-Class and B-Class from 2012, and the CLA. Both an original-look interface and a larger widescreen display work here. Whether your car has Audio 20 or Comand, we can tell from a photo.
NTG 5 and newer (from approx. 2015)
From around 2016, many model lines offered CarPlay as standard or as an option. If yours lacks it, it can sometimes be activated later, depending on the system, or added via an interface – we check this individually.

My Mercedes has Comand – can I keep the original display?
Yes, in most cases. With an original-look interface, CarPlay and Android Auto appear on your existing Comand screen. You operate everything with the controller, the steering-wheel buttons or by voice (Siri or Google Assistant), and the cockpit looks just as it did when it left the factory. Depending on the model, this also works with Audio 20 and a screen. We check your car from a photo.
What's the difference between Audio 20 and Comand?
Audio 20 is the standard radio – depending on the model with a smaller screen and sometimes with basic navigation (Becker Map Pilot). Comand is the higher-end system with built-in navigation and usually a larger screen. There are solutions for both; with Comand, the original look is a particularly good fit. If in doubt, a photo is enough and we'll tell you what your Mercedes has.
Could my Mercedes already have CarPlay?
Models up to around 2015 – for example the W204, W212, GLK or the A-Class W176 before its facelift – generally don't. From around 2016, many model lines offered CarPlay as standard or as an option ('smartphone integration'). If a younger car doesn't have it, we check whether the feature can be activated later or whether an interface is the better solution.
Is CarPlay worth it in a Sprinter or Vito?
Absolutely – in a van or campervan, up-to-date navigation, hands-free calling and music from your phone are especially useful. For the Sprinter W906 and Vito/Viano W639 there are vehicle-specific fascias for a new display, often combined with a reversing camera (add-on for CHF 249).
