Volvos built between 2004 and 2018 are solid, safe companions – but their infotainment has aged. The pop-up navigation shows outdated maps, and apps like Spotify or WhatsApp are hardly usable on the move. With a CarPlay retrofit for your Volvo (or Android Auto), you use Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps, music streaming and voice control directly on the screen in your dashboard.

On Volvos with a Sensus screen (from around 2010), an interface adds CarPlay to the original screen so the Scandinavian cockpit stays exactly as it is (from CHF 790). Alternatively – and on older models without a screen – a new Android display replaces the original screen or radio (from CHF 690). On the C30, S40 and V50 with their slim floating centre console, we assess the solution individually.

We collect your Volvo – included in Zurich and Zug – and usually return it the same day. See the packages on our prices page and get your fixed-price quote via the enquiry form for your Volvo.

Factory radios and systems in Volvo cars

During these years, Volvo fitted three types of infotainment. The right solution depends on which one your car has:

Performance, High Performance and Premium Sound radios

Without a large screen, for example in the C30, S40/V50, V70, XC70 and first-generation XC90. In the XC90 and older V70, an Android display with a matching fascia replaces the radio. On the C30, S40 and V50 with their floating centre console, integration is more demanding – here we check individually what can be done neatly.

RTI navigation with pop-up screen

The retractable screen of older Volvo navigation systems. Depending on the model, we replace it with an Android display or keep using it via an interface.

Sensus and Sensus Connect (from approx. 2010)

A fixed screen (around 5 to 7 inches, depending on equipment) in the V40, S60 and V60 and, depending on the year, in the XC60, V70, XC70 and S80. An original-look interface brings CarPlay and Android Auto to this screen, operated via the centre console buttons, the steering-wheel buttons or by voice, depending on the model. Alternatively, a larger Android display replaces the original screen.

What keeps working in your Volvo

  • Original screen and menus with an original-look interface
  • Steering-wheel buttons for volume, tracks and phone
  • Factory reversing camera and parking beeps (depending on equipment)
  • Premium Sound (Dynaudio) with the right adapter
  • Operation via the centre console buttons (depending on model and solution)

Volvo questions

Can I keep the original screen with Volvo Sensus?

Yes, in many cases. An interface shows CarPlay and Android Auto on the existing Sensus screen. Depending on the model, you operate it via the centre console buttons, the steering-wheel buttons or by voice (Siri or Google Assistant). The cockpit looks unchanged and the original menus remain available. We check your car from a photo.

What happens to the pop-up navigation (RTI)?

The RTI navigation in older Volvos uses maps that are often no longer up to date. Depending on the model, we replace the pop-up screen with an Android display with CarPlay or keep using it via an interface. We clarify beforehand which option can be done neatly on your Volvo and set it out in the quote.

My Volvo has Dynaudio Premium Sound – will that still work?

Yes. Premium Sound uses an external amplifier, on some models connected via a fibre-optic cable (MOST bus). With the right adapter, the sound is retained. Any extra cost for the adapter is shown transparently in the quote – never as a surprise after installation.

Doesn't the Volvo V40 have CarPlay from the factory?

As a rule, no: the V40 (2012–2019) came with Sensus or Sensus Connect, and to our knowledge CarPlay was not available. An original-look interface or a new display fills that gap. Send us the year and a photo of the screen and we'll check your car free of charge.
